Acupuncture

Most people have at least heard of acupuncture by now. It's been portrayed in our popular media repeatedly for the last decade. It's been featured on TV shows and many celebrities and high profile sports figures have publicly endorsed it. Most major hospital institutions have departments dedicated to providing acupuncture and other complimentary approaches to health. Even with important advances in modern science, the use of acupuncture continues to grow and gain acceptance worldwide.

Acupuncture is part of a time-tested form of health care that has been in existence for more than 2300 years, and some historians say as many as 5000 years. The procedure of Acupuncture involves the use of very thin, fine needles skilfully inserted at specific points in the body. Stimulating acupuncture points triggers a natural healing response, as well as a host of other effects in the body ranging from endorphin release, to deep physical relaxation.

Contrary to a common misconception, acupuncture is rarely painful. Acupuncture needles are not much larger than the diameter of a human hair, and they are not hollow like a hypodermic needle. They glide between tissues with little or no discomfort. In fact, many patients fall asleep during treatment. For your safety, we only use pre-sterilized needles which we dispose of after each use.

Most people find the treatment procedure very soothing and relaxing and many conditions, especially pain, respond very quickly.

More than one acupuncture style

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is the most commonly practiced style of acupuncture, but certainly not the only holistic method to come from Asia. Other styles include; Meridian therapies, Trigger point release, Myofascial needling, Bagua, I-Ching, Five Element, Qigong, Japanese Styles and the list goes on.

Fortunately, David has trained in many different styles of acupuncture. He always adjusts his treatments and selects the best method to fit your individual needs.

My patients often ask me 'which Acupuncture style is the best?' My reply is always, the treatment style that fits your condition and gives you the best results. There are strengths and weaknesses to every method.

Most people are surprised at how quickly they feel a change in their condition. We endeavour to have a positive result each and every time we do treatment. Our high standard for practice assumes that you will have a noticeable change within the first few treatments. If you do not experience some relief by then, we can assume that acupuncture may not be the best choice for you, and we will suggest alternatives. We do not treat unnecessarily.

What points will you use for my problem?

Acupuncture Points are chosen according to the function they provide and the nature of your condition. They may or may not be chosen in the area of the condition being treated and quite often, they are far away form the area of concern. Our typical treatments use very few acupuncture needles to achieve excellent results.

Will it work for me?

Acupuncture works... every time. As a method, it is extremely reliable at achieving a positive result in the body. Perhaps that is why it has gained the reputation that is has for healing and why it has survived as a clinical practice for thousands of years.

The only relevant question to have when evaluating acupuncture: Is it enough by itself to cure your particular condition?

If acupuncture alone isn't enough, we will combine other methods or adjust key lifestyle factors to achieve healing. Most likely acupuncture can help if your body is not significantly compromised.

At your initial clinic appointment we will quickly determine if acupuncture is the best choice to help you. If it is not, we will suggest alternative approaches.

You can contact us and we will discuss your particular condition(s), our experience in treating similar cases, or any other questions or concerns you may have.

Acupuncture is an incredible method for triggering and regulating a healing response in your body.

Is it all in my head?

While we are the first to suggest to all of our patients to expect a great outcome, acupuncture can work even without your active participation. Pets, children and the occasional resistant sceptic get real and tangible results with our treatments. It would stand to reason that if it was all in your head, those groups would be excluded from receiving benefit.

Numerous clinical studies suggest that belief, trust and hopeful outlooks do improve clinical outcomes. We encourage you to take an active and helpful role in your treatments, which means you will typically have results faster than those who harbour some form of resistance toward treatment.

Many of our patients come to us after having unsatisfactory results with conventional treatments and we typically treat health concerns that are difficult to diagnose and understand from a modern disease perspective.

We provide unique clinical perspectives of your problem(s) based on a holistic understanding of your body.

We provide an integrative approach to you healthcare

We choose appropriate treatment strategies based on an in-depth diagnostic process which includes a thorough health history, lifestyle assessment as well as traditional pulse diagnosis and tongue diagnosis.

Because we follow clinical traditions that consider many subtle details about you, we can often discover more about you and your condition than many other healthcare providers. We feel this is paramount for giving you the best care possible. Our initial treatment often lasts over an hour and a half because we want to understand you completely. This level of care was common in previous generations but is almost missing in modern times.

More often than not Classical Chinese Medical diagnosis is more than enough to understand and treat you. When it isn't, we always consider inputs from conventional medical testing such as MRI's, blood work and X-rays to keep our treatments safe and effective.

The absolute best medicine has to offer today is an integrative approach to health. Combining the best of Eastern and Western medical knowledge provides you with more options and ultimately better outcomes.

If we discover you are in need of conventional care, we do not hesitate to refer you to another healthcare professional. We often coordinate with other care providers to develop a complete and effective plan to help you heal.

All the practitioners at our clinic work closely with you to ensure acupuncture treatments are supported by education towards healthy habits, like proper nutrition and good exercise plans. We spend time learning about you and your health, so an effective plan can be created to achieve your goals.
